長岡技術科学大学大学院のご支援による「科学技術英語」授業 SDGs グローバル・アカデミック・ディスカッション最終発表会を開催

2025年6月27日（金）、一関工業高等専門学校では、専攻科2年生必修科目「科学技術英語」の一環として、SDGs グローバル・アカデミック・ディスカッション最終発表会を開催しました（担当：下川理英准教授、非常勤グローバルコーディネーター Trihatmoko Kharisrama（ラマ））。本取り組みは長岡技術科学大学大学院（NUT）のご支援により実現し、NUTのSDGsプロモーター4名を本校に迎えることができました。
本企画は、学生のグローバル視野、批判的思考力、異文化コミュニケーション能力の育成を目的とし、グローバルエンジニア育成プログラムの一環として実施されました。学生たちはNUT留学生と協働し、マレーシア、ベトナム、パキスタン、バングラデシュなどの課題をSDGsの視点から検討しました。
5月9日の初回オンライン講義では、NUT特任講師の勝身麻美先生よりSDGsの導入講義をいただきました。続く5月30日には、NUTのSDGsプロモーター5名が自国の課題を発表。その後、学生たちはSlackを活用し、プロモーターの支援を受けながら実現可能で革新的な解決策をグループで検討しました。
最終発表会では、プロモーターを本校に迎え、対面で英語プレゼンテーションを実施。学生からは「英語発表は緊張したが、自信につながった」「海外の問題や世界における日本の役割を考える良い機会だった」との声があり、プロモーターからも「遠い国の問題を工学の知識で解決しようとする授業は楽しかった」と感想が寄せられました。
発表会後には、研究室見学や茶道部による茶道体験も行われました。「ロボティクスのデモンストレーションを見られて嬉しかった」「茶道は感動的で、茶道の先生に『お茶に性格のバランスが出ている』と褒められて印象に残った」との声があり、技術・文化の両面で交流を深めました。
夕方には、タイ・カンボジア・フランスからの留学生を交えた英語ランゲージエクスチェンジも実施。「今日一番のハイライトだった」「英語での交流が将来の学業やキャリアに役立つ時間になった」と好評を得ました。
最後に優秀グループ発表が紹介されました。第1グループ（Baby Step）はパキスタンの社会課題解決に向けた雇用改革システムを提案、第3グループ（17lab）は日本の技術を応用したバングラデシュ向け地震速報アプリを発表しました。いずれもエンジニアリングの力をグローバル課題解決に活かそうとする姿勢が表れていました。
このような貴重な機会を実現してくださった長岡技術科学大学の皆様に深く感謝申し上げます。特に、勝身麻美先生のご指導、訪問くださった4名のSDGsプロモーター（Ali Syed Muhammadさん、Kainat Zahraさん、Uchini Bandaranayakeさん、Lim Huangさん）、そしてオンラインで学生を励まし続けてくださったプロモーターの皆様に厚く御礼申し上げます。
一関高専は今後も、国際的視野と異文化理解を備え、社会課題に挑む「ソーシャルドクター」としてのエンジニア育成に努めてまいります。
Fostering Global Perspectives and International Friendship:
Final Presentation of the SDGs Global Academic Discussions in the “Scientific and Technological English” Class with Support from Nagaoka University of Technology
On Friday, June 27th 2025, Ichinoseki College hosted the final event of the SDGs Global Academic Discussions, part of the “Scientific and Technological English” course for second-year advanced course students, taught by Assoc. Prof. Shimokawa Rie and Global Coordinator from Indonesia, Kharisrama Trihatmoko (Rama). This program was supported by Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT), whose four international SDGs Promoters joined us on campus.
The initiative aimed to strengthen students’ global awareness, critical thinking, and cross-cultural communication. Through the Global Engineer Development Program, students collaborated with NUT’s international students on challenges in Malaysia, Vietnam, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, framed within the United Nations’ SDGs.
The collaboration began on May 9th with an online lecture by Dr. Katsumi Mami, Specially Appointed Lecturer for SDGs at NUT, followed on May 30th by presentations from five SDGs Promoters about issues in their home countries. Over the following weeks, students, supported by the Promoters, worked in groups via Slack to design practical solutions aligned with the SDGs.
At the final session, the Promoters visited Ichinoseki College for face-to-face presentations where students shared their learning and proposed ideas. Students reflected, “I was nervous to present in English, but now I feel more confident,” and “It broadened my perspective on global issues and Japan’s role in the world.” One Promoter said, “I enjoyed solving issues in faraway countries through engineering knowledge.”
Beyond the presentations, the Promoters toured research labs and joined a tea ceremony demonstration by the tea-making (sado) club. One remarked, “Ichinoseki College is strong in robotics, and I was glad to see the robot demonstration.” Another shared, “Sado was inspiring, and the tea master said I have a balanced personality from the tea I made.” These experiences enriched the day’s technological and cultural exchange.
In the evening, a language exchange brought together students from Thailand, Cambodia, and France. Participants valued the chance to connect, with one calling it “the highlight of the day” and enjoying candid English conversations that will support their academic and professional growth.
The event concluded with recognition of outstanding projects. Group 1 (Baby Step) proposed an employment reform system to address social issues in Pakistan, while Group 3 (17lab) developed an earthquake alert app using Japanese technology for Bangladesh. These projects reflect students’ commitment to applying engineering for global good.
We extend our sincere gratitude to NUT for their support, without which this collaboration would not have been possible. Special thanks to Dr. Katsumi Mami, the four visiting SDGs Promoters (Ali Syed Muhammad from Pakistan, Kainat Zahra from Pakistan, Uchini Bandaranayake from Sri Lanka, and Lim Huang from Malaysia), and all online participants who motivated and inspired our students.
Through this initiative, Ichinoseki College reaffirms its commitment to developing socially responsible engineers with global perspectives, intercultural empathy, and the resolve to address pressing international challenges as future “social doctors”.
